The second round table in the Wusool project reveals the reluctance of women to public life, which is the main reason for their weak political participation

The Islamic religion did not prevent women from engaging in public life, for women are the groups most sense the problems of their society, and therefore whoever considers that women have no role in society is of a short view, women bear many of the burdens of living and other things in raising children, for she is the Minister of Finance for the family and she is the manager The first is the financial resources of the home, and therefore women are the ones who form society and are responsible for a large part of its well-being and progress.
This is confirmed by the local religious and popular leaders participating in the second round table held by the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights within the framework of the project to empower women to rule in the Egyptian village (Wusoul), funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). The project aims to enhance the participation of Women in local governance in the Egyptian village, by building women's capacities to run in local elections, raising awareness of the importance of women's participation in local governance mechanisms, and building effective community mechanisms in support of the fair representation of women in the elected local popular councils.

A round table was held at the headquarters of the local popular council for the center and city of Atfih in Helwan governorate, on Thursday December 16, 2010, with the participation of more than 30 local popular leaders, which varied between religious leadership in the endowments, members and members of local popular councils, some directors of civil and charitable societies, directors of youth centers and women secretaries in the center as well as With the participation of three women who were candidates for the People's Assembly elections, they had the determination and enthusiasm to participate in order to support, empower and rehabilitate women.

The round table revealed that women's reluctance to participate is the main reason for their weak political participation, as there are no obstacles in the Islamic religion that prevent women from participating in political life and decision-making. Also, many of the leaders who participated in the table admitted that many men in their society do not constitute a barrier to the political participation of women, but they are the ones who do not wish to participate, either due to their lack of capabilities or lack of experience in practicing public work.

Al-Ma'idah also revealed that there are a number of problems raised by the participating women leaders that one of the most important reasons for the decline and reluctance of women to participate is the illiteracy that is widespread in their society, as the illiteracy rate in Atfih Center is only about 48%, and the percentage of women is about 80%, in addition to Some men forbid their wives to leave the house under the pretext that the Islamic religion prohibits the exit of women and the practice of public work, and many men in rural society view working women and participation in political life as abnormal, a fact that exists and we can easily see it in rural societies.

The table came out with many recommendations made by community, popular and religious leaderships, as well as the partisan participation, including that women be rehabilitated, trained and prepared well to enter political life and get out of the melting pot that has placed themselves within her family through intensifying training courses for the participation of women, as well as teaching parents and husbands the importance of women's participation. By educating their sons and motivating their daughters to participate in political life and motivating her to express her opinion within her family.

The participants also recommended that women be properly selected in leadership and public positions because the Egyptian society lacks influential women leaders and provides societal and material support to women who wish to play a role in political life and local decision-making, as well as the necessity of concerting Egyptian civil society efforts with community leaders and following up the implementation of those efforts to reach To tangible results in support and empowerment of women.
