Calling on countries to boycott the disarmament conference while Israel is presiding over the conference

As the Government of Israel prepares to lead the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva from 19 August to 13 September 2024, Maat for Peace, Development, and Human Rights calls upon all concerned parties, including civil society organizations, experts, and all people of conscience, to join and sign this petition. The petition urges states participating in the conference to object to and boycott the conference, as happened before when countries objected to the Arab Republic of Syria's presidency of the conference, from 28 May to 26 June 2018; and when countries objected to North Korea's presidency of the conference from 30 May to 24 June 2022.

Israel has demonstrated blatant disregard for the principles and regulations of the Conference on Disarmament since its aggressive military attacks on the Gaza Strip, launching indiscriminate military assaults and threatening international peace and security. Furthermore, political and military officials in the Israeli government made statements about the possibility of using the nuclear bomb to crush Civilians from the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip,

Israel killed a large number of civilians, destroyed entire homes, and demolished many infrastructures using artificial intelligence systems during the war, such as the Lavender system and the Gospel system; civilians trapped amid the fighting no longer find food, water, or access to medical services.

Therefore, we urge you to sign this petition calling on the member states of the Disarmament Conference to oppose Israel's presidency of the conference, in protest against the crimes it commits, so that this conference does not serve as a tool to gloss over Israel’s image before the international community.
