Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights stressed the need to strengthen cooperative measures among North African countries regarding adaptation to climate-smart agriculture, to expand the scope of climate adaptation measures.

This came during Maat’s participation in a session entitled “Avoiding the problem of flooding the Delta and the effects of climate change on North African countries,” in cooperation with the Imam Foundation, within the activities of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 27), during the thematic day on adaptation and agriculture.

In this regard; Abdel Rahman Pasha, Director of the Sustainable Development Unit at the Maat Foundation, emphasized in his speech that North African countries in general do not contribute to harmful gas emissions except to a very small extent, and yet the effects of climate change that they are exposed to are more severe compared to many countries that are located On the coasts of the seas, he pointed out the importance of countries and organizations in North Africa # taking a set of measures to reduce the negative effects of climate change, especially those related to food security.

Pasha recommended that the governments of those countries strengthen their work within the framework of the integrated coastal zone management policy and protocol, in order to make economic, social and agricultural activities more climate-resistant, and establish a regional system to monitor changes in sea levels and the impact of climate change on coastal erosion and beach stability urgently. In order to predict and assess sensitivity to climate variables.
