Maat launches a “campaign” to hold perpetrators of war crimes accountable in Gaza

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights launched a campaign entitled “Stop the war... Save the civilians... Hold the perpetrators accountable,” on the sidelines of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which falls on November 29 of each year, with the aim of highlighting the suffering of the Palestinian people as a result of gross human rights violations. committed by the Israeli occupation forces. The Campaign seeks to expose the crimes against humanity committed by the Israeli occupation forces, which flagrantly violate international conventions and treaties related to international humanitarian law. Its primary objectives are to mitigate the effects of war for humanitarian reasons through the establishment of a permanent ceasefire, preventing further loss of civilian lives, and ending the policy of siege and collective punishment imposed by the Israeli occupation forces. Additionally, the campaign advocates for the facilitation of humanitarian aid and medical convoys into the Gaza Strip, pressuring the international community to follow legal procedures aimed at holding the responsible individuals accountable before the International Criminal Court.

The Campaign will span four days, commencing on November 26 and concluding on November 29, 2023. Its urgency is underscored by the dire circumstances created by the tight Israeli blockade, which has been in effect for 16 years, preventing the entry of essential humanitarian aid, necessities, and goods, including water, food, and fuel. As a result, over two million people in the Gaza Strip are currently struggling to survive, and the situation will deteriorate further if hostilities persist.

Maat implore governments of countries and international organizations to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities to a permanent ceasefire, the regular entry of aid, and an independent international investigation into the war crimes committed by the occupation authorities. These measures aim to put an end to the prolonged impunity that has prevailed. Furthermore, individuals and organizations are encouraged to sign a petition that will be forwarded to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, urging the prosecution of the perpetrators of war crimes.
