Issuance of five reports on the status of economic and social rights at the conclusion of Citizen's Voice

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, topped citizen's voice project by issuing five reports under the name (case report on public services) for the targeted governorates of the project (Cairo, Giza, Sharkia, Qena and Luxor) for each of its own report of the governorate
The significance of reports for the situation of economic and social rights is centered in various governorates and the development of these reports under the disposal of policymakers and decision makers, media, civil society organizations and mechanisms of human rights protection that it can contribute to improve the status of economic and social rights in the targeted governorates, especially since the poor services provided to citizens in general are the most important reasons leading to the revolution of January 25, 2011.
The methodology for the preparation of reports depended on information from several sources. The most important is the results of daily monitoring of a sample of the national and partisan and independent newspapers. These papers are (Al Masry Al Youm – Freedom and Justice - Almsa – Al Akhbar - The Seventh Day – Al Wafd). We monitored complaints received from Support Center of citizens partner associations, Statistics and Studies published on the target areas, and the outputs of seminars that were held with citizens in the targeted governorates, (16) sessions.
The reports have monitored some of the various problems in the targeted governorates, which have different features and manifestations from the governorate to another, but agree in the general framework, and most important of these problems include: -
1. The problems of education: - high density classes and the poor condition of schools and poor financial and functional conditions for teachers
2. The problems of drinking water and sanitation: - Non-access of sanitation services and poor quality of drinking water
3. Health problems: - the low state of hospitals and the difficulties of getting the right treatment at the expense of the state
4. The problems of transport and communications: - multiple cases of banditry, rail and repeated protests
5. The garbage problems: - epidemiology of garbage and the inability of the Government to present practical and achieved solutions
The reports provided a set of varied recommendations to decision makers to develop solutions to these problems. Most important of these recommendations is to put timelines and provide the necessary funding for the completion of projects, sanitation and drinking water, schools, the development of a comprehensive system of health insurance and change the legislative frameworks of the ruling to ensure that those unable shall access to health Services, adoption of participatory approach in the development of solutions to the problems of the targeted provinces and open the way for civil society organizations to contribute to solving these problems.
Maat Foundation calls upon through these reports concerned authorities and ministries, bodies and human rights organizations to take care of the file of decentralization, which will lead to a significant improvement in the quality of public services provided to citizens and activate the popular control on the work of the local bodies responsible for providing these services.
