Maat condemns the government's negligent position and the actions of the intruders among the demonstrators. We call on the demonstrators to emphasize the peacefulness of the demonstrations and confront acts of sabotage in cooperation with the army

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights has been following with great concern the events that Egypt has been witnessing since Friday, January 28, 2011 and is still going on until now, which was known as Friday of Anger and witnessed a stormy wave of protests and demonstrations in most parts of the Republic, and the incidents of violence and mutual riots that it involved in some Areas and attacks between demonstrators and the police, Maat Foundation expresses its position on these events in the following points: -
1- The Foundation affirms its biased position and supports the people's right to express their opinion in all peaceful ways and means, as well as understands and supports the legitimate demands of protesters and angry people regarding the necessity of instituting political, economic and social reforms in Egypt.
2 - The Foundation strongly condemns the Egyptian government's weak and unresponsive stance to citizens' legitimate problems and demands. It also considers the absence of government officials in light of these events and their lack of confrontation with the people a blunt political failure and evidence of the absence of a sense of responsibility towards the people's demands. They bear it by virtue of their professional and political positions.
3- Maat Foundation condemns the sabotage, riot, and looting carried out by some of the infiltrators in these gatherings, which the vast majority of them definitely reject, and considers that those responsible for these operations are trained and qualified persons who have insisted among the demonstrators and protesters in an attempt to pollute their peaceful demonstrations on the one hand, and achieve political goals and narrow interests On the other hand, the Molotov cocktails that were thrown at some state facilities and the private cars that were set on fire testify that there were subversive elements present in the midst of the demonstrations whose peace and good intentions are not questioned by the majority of the participants in them.
4- Maat Foundation believes that President Mubarak’s speech, which came too late, did not include the appropriate amount of reassurances to the protesters and the angry. Nevertheless, we believe that the presence of the president at this stage is the only guarantee for the stability of the situation and not sliding into complete disintegration, provided that he takes measures that would bring about reforms Radical in the constitutional, legal, political, economic and social levels during the period leading up to the presidential elections scheduled for September 2011, in a way that guarantees the conduct of truly competitive elections in which the people choose whoever rules them with free will, far from the falsification and fraud witnessed in previous elections, and in a manner that also guarantees respect for the right of any citizen to run For the office of President on reasonable, acceptable and logical terms.
5- Maat Foundation calls on President Mubarak to expedite the assignment of the new government, provided that he chooses its president from among the Egyptian figures who enjoy respect, integrity and political acumen, and that the main task of this government is to restore discipline to the state and the street, and to lay down procedures to achieve the required reforms, and to formulate the required legislative amendments. Investigate the abuses and incidents contained in the recent events, bring those responsible to justice, and administer a fair and transparent presidential election process.
6- With regard to Parliament, we see the necessity to wait for the rulings of the Egyptian Court of Cassation, and the President of the Republic must respect these provisions and take appropriate measures vis-à-vis the People's Assembly in light of them.
7- Finally, Maat Foundation appeals to all Egyptian citizens to help the army forces, which are fully respected and appreciated, to achieve discipline in the street, protect public property, and emphasize the peacefulness of protest actions and demonstrations until this crisis passes and confront any infiltrators who aim to sabotage them. The political message of the demonstrations has already reached the political leadership The state now has no choice but to respond to its content.
