The "Popular Monitoring over the Transitional Period Network" supports the cancelation of the proportion of workers and farmers.

At some point after the 1952 revolution, constitutions allocated a proportion of the workers and farmers in the legislative assemblies, and during the socialist era that followed the revolution directly there was gravity to this constitutional text, especially as workers and farmers represent the largest proportion of the Egyptian people and thus among the voters .
But with the succession of years, and the radical changes that affected the structure of the national economy, the legal description of the workers and farmers became not limited to this category, but it has been witnessed that business leaders as well as senior owners of agricultural land could run for office taking the advantage of the gaps in the law governing.
In this context and on the occasion of the comprehensive review process of the Egyptian constitution, The " Popular Monitoring over the Transitional Period Network " considers it necessary to cancel this constitutional text, bearing in mind the following: -
1 - The real workers and farmers are able to reach the seats in parliament without quota and it only depends on the political parties that must reach these people and convince them with its programs and nominate them on their lists.
2 –Current professionals are mostly children of workers and farmers who have contributed to the renaissance of this country and thus they are the most capable to express them in the legislature.
3 - Over the past four decades, the real workers and farmers rarely reached the seats in parliament, as this constitutional text was abused by the business leaders and owners of lands.
4 -Although this percentage was set in the constitution for nearly 60 years, but the economic and social conditions of the workers witnessed remarkable deterioration. This reflects the failure of the constitutional text that was set to preserve the rights of this category.
5 – Supporting workers and farmers to reach their economic and social development depends on the establishment of the independent unions for farmers and supporting the freedom of organization and functioning of these unions to turn into effective tools in the service of its members.
It is worth mentioning that the "Popular Monitoring over the Transitional Period Network" was founded by Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights in the context of expanding people’s supervision over the elections. The network monitors the procedures during the transitional phase, including the amendment to the constitution, and the parliamentary, presidential, and local elections, in addition to monitoring the status of political participation and protection of the right to form peaceful gatherings and other issues associated with the transitional phase.
