They tell us your voice is not necessary. ”This sentence was said by one of the women participating in the discussion session held by the Maat Foundation within the framework of the“ Wusul ”project to educate women and girls about the importance of participating in local governance and their right to vote and run. Women have become misconceived about the futility of their vote in the elections and the futility of the entire electoral process, so abstention became optional after it was compulsory, and this reluctance was passed down to children by participating in political elections and not talking about it with their children, so mothers are not aware of what the elections are and also the children themselves do not know What are the elections and how do they vote and thus the children themselves do not know what the elections are and what is the feasibility of the entire voting process. This is what emerged from the tenth discussion session of the project to empower women to govern in the Egyptian village “Wusoul”, which is implemented in cooperation between the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). The project seeks to enhance the participation of women in local governance in the Egyptian village. Through building the capacities of women to run in local elections, raising awareness of the importance of women's participation in local government mechanisms, and building effective community mechanisms in support of the fair representation of women in the elected local popular councils. The discussion session was held in the Culture House in the local unit in the village of Matania, in the district of Ayat, 6th of October Governorate, on Saturday, March 26, 2011, in which more than 50 women and girls from the center participated. Professor / Ayman Aqil, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Maat Foundation, and Professor / Salim Shaker, Chairman of the Local Council of the Center And the city of Al-Ayyat and Mr. Sayed Abdel Moneim, a member of the local council of the village of Matania, who talked about the importance of women's participation in elections and the importance of the presence of women in local government mechanisms. The seminar dealt with a number of problems that hinder women's participation in the electoral process, whether by casting a vote or running for office, and the most important of which was the control of men over the behavior of women in the rural community, so men, whether they are fathers, husbands, or brothers, control the exit and entry of women and girls and control the educational and practical ambition and thus Female participation in Al-Ayyat society depends on the extent to which the man’s mind is open and his tolerance in female work is the biggest problem faced by women, which is the basis of the family and socialization of both males and females, and cultural habits that affect the woman’s being as it is only the mother and the wife and the nanny of children only, and she must be bound by her home Not only . The participation of women in the elections is limited to the People's Assembly elections only because of the influence of the tribe and the fanaticism in the elections and the control over the increase in the percentage of votes. The existence of certain interests, not because it is convinced of the importance of the election and its right to choose its candidate. Some of the women participating in the seminar raised another problem, which is that most of the families in Al-Ayyat Center are poor because they depend mainly on agriculture, and therefore entry there is almost reaching the minimum level, and therefore women who have the experience, competence and enthusiasm to run in the elections may not have the financial ability to run the electoral process and campaign. Electoral. At the end of the episode, some women recommended the necessity of holding such seminars and other seminars for men to make them aware of the importance of women's participation in the elections, which is positively reflected in the participation of women.
