By all accounts, it is a true wedding of democracy that we have been deprived of for many decades. What Egypt witnessed during the day of the referendum on constitutional amendments - regardless of its outcome - represents a radical positive shift in the Egyptian personality, which according to the significance of the number of voters, I tend to participate in public affairs, which we were calling for. With it and we have been pushing it for years, and in light of the indications of this referendum, Maat Foundation would like to emphasize several important points as follows: 1- The events of the referendum confirmed that the Egyptian citizen has returned to become an active party in the political process, and then all political forces wishing to be It has a foothold in the upcoming political map to take into account this actor in its future programs, speeches, and political movements. 2- The referendum result that came with “yes” does not mean at all an authorization by the people for any political or community faction to speak on its behalf, and political organizations that were in support of the referendum should not try to exploit this result to suggest their strength on the ground, and then try to impose their legislative agenda on Society as a whole. 3- With the due acknowledgment and denunciation of the issue of inserting religion into political practices that some political forces have tried to follow, we believe that the result of the referendum did not, in most cases, respond to this approach, and in all cases, this requires the issuing of the existing laws to take into account this and to develop criminal texts This behavior is in the complementary laws currently being developed. 4- As much as the overall picture of the referendum was wonderful and expressive, the more it was revealing a number of deficiencies that must be avoided in the future, perhaps the most prominent of which is the lack of time with which some civil society organizations were unable to implement a real process of monitoring the referendum, as the time interval between announcing a date The referendum and its conduct are less than two weeks, which is a period that absolutely does not allow for the identification of observers, the development of training material and their training, and the establishment of integrated operations rooms, and this is what prompted some civil society organizations not to participate in monitoring the referendum. Finally, Maat Foundation calls on all political forces and factions in Egypt to accept the result of the referendum and work on its basis, and prepare for the next stage of the process of building the democratic system that we seek, and we bear in mind the interest of this country and completely move away from thinking about factional or ideological interests.
