Eleven Years since the Libyan Revolution ...Volatile Indicators

On February 17, 2022, Libya celebrates the 11th anniversary of Libya's 17 February Revolution. During these years, the country remains striving to achieve political stability and development for its people.

Despite the state of political disorder that the country is going through, and the sharp and conflicting polarization, Libya has taken promising steps on the path towards building peace with the signing of the 5+5 Libyan Joint Military Commission (JMC). However, the presence of foreign mercenaries remains a major challenge hindering the success of the political process in Libya. In the same context, the comprehensive reconciliation between the Libyan parties represents an inevitable need ahead of the presidential elections.

With the expiry of the deadline of the elections scheduled for December 2021, Maat stresses the need to set a new date for holding the elections, and to set a clear road map, to enhance democracy and Libyans' sense of citizenship, which in turn would achieve the SDG 16 related to achieving peace, justice, and strong institutions.
