Mahmoud Al-Atmi: “My wife was killed when the car exploded with an explosive device attached to the bottom of the car. My wife died instantly, along with her unborn child.”
Mahmoud Al-Atmi is a Yemeni journalist and member of the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate. His wife, journalist Rasha Al-Harazi, was assassinated by the Houthi group.
Today, he delivered his intervention at the Human Rights Council's 49th session, during the general debate under Item 3. Mahmoud continues to receive threats from the Houthi group.
Maat Peace Foundation recommends that member states of the Human Rights Council pressure the Houthi group to open an investigation into the assassination of Rasha al-Harazi, overturn the death sentences against four Yemeni journalists, and pressure the Houthi group to release hundreds of arbitrarily detained individuals, including Mohammed al-Salahi and Mohammed Awad.
Maat for Peace would like to draw the Council's attention to the widespread culture of impunity for the killing of journalists, and the continued practice of intimidation and fear against journalists in Yemen.
