Maat Among Eight Organizations in the Climate Justice Project in Romania

Maat for Peace, Development, and Human Rights participated in the Climate Justice Project held from December 11 to 20, 2024, in Romania. This initiative brought together a group of European organizations from various countries, including Romania, Spain, Greece, Georgia, Bulgaria, Albania, Lithuania, and Egypt.

The project aimed to empower young people to utilize direct action methods to achieve climate justice. It focused on educating and developing their sustainability competencies through informal learning processes, enabling participants to present these methodologies within their local communities.

At the conclusion of the project, a street campaign was created and implemented in Brașov, Romania, to advocate for climate justice and encourage behavioral changes that promote the preservation of environmental resources and reduce climate pollution through direct action methods.

Marina Sami, Maat's representative on the project, emphasized that the Climate Justice Project addressed several critical issues, including the impact of climate change on vulnerable and marginalized communities, mobilization strategies, and the effects of climate change on biodiversity and various economic sectors.
Sami recommended enhancing international cooperation to fulfill the provisions of the Paris Agreement, highlighting the need to support developing countries and vulnerable groups most affected by climate challenges through funding.
