Maat receives a grant from the Anna Lindh Foundation and withdraws from the presidency of the National Network

Maat: The performance of the ministry serves those who troll the negative aspects of the Egyptian human rights record, and we call on the prime minister to intervene

In the context of the continuation of the unjustified “intransigence” of the Ministry of Social Solidarity with the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, and given that the ministry did not take any serious steps in investigating the facts that Maat had previously reported in multiple complaints of the Minister, and published them in more than one press release supported by documents and documents These are the facts related to the Ministry’s bodies deliberately obstructing the granting of approvals for projects submitted by the Foundation, and procrastinating in responses in violation of the letter and spirit of the law. Therefore, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees decided in its session held on May 11, 2016 the following: -

1- An apology to the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue of Cultures (Egypt hosts its headquarters in Alexandria and enjoys a close relationship with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) for accepting the amount of the grant offered to implement the seventh step of the network’s strategy, whose contract was signed at the beginning of this year and corresponded with the Ministry of Social Solidarity regarding its approval since January 14, 2016 We have not received any response other than procrastination, disavowal and obstinacy to date.

2- Addressing the Anna Lindh Foundation regarding Maat’s desire to withdraw from the presidency of the Egyptian National Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation, which is the site that Maat occupies with elections for two consecutive terms, due to the intransigence faced by the Foundation in obtaining approvals for its funded projects despite its literal commitment to the provisions of Law 84 of 2002 in accordance with As the results of all previous reviews of the Ministry of Social Solidarity testify itself.

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights (which holds the consultative status of the Economic and Social Council at the United Nations) expresses its “disappointment” in the performance of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, after we were bored by complaining to the Minister and to the Ministry’s agencies over the past months, hoping to achieve the minimum of our legal rights. Maat Foundation repeats what was previously stated in Former press statements That the ministry’s performance towards serious civil society organizations registered in accordance with the law and which abides by its provisions, and which are respected at the regional and international levels, is totally inconsistent with the official discourse internally and externally, and it is the discourse that affirms the state’s respect for organizations registered under the umbrella of Law 84 of 2002

The Foundation calls on the Prime Minister to take into consideration the performance of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in this aspect, especially as this is closely related to Egypt's mental image in front of the world, and it is also related to one of the most important aspects that some exploit in the negative evaluation of the Egyptian human rights record.
