Ayman Aqeel, Chairman of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, Vice-Chairman of the African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council, participated in the first regular session of the Second Standing Committee of the Fourth General Assembly of ECOSOCC held in the capital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, which came as a continuation of the activities of the African Union Summit and its work was held this February.

 The meetings culminated in the adoption of the annual plan, activities and budget for ECOSOCC, in addition to discussing the mechanisms for implementing the proposed programmes and activities, taking into account the economic challenges and changes in the regional and international arenas.

During the meetings, Aqil stressed the importance of working intensively on the African Union’s 2025 theme of compensation for colonial legacy and its negative effects that extend to this day, and which have implications for the reality of development and human rights on the African continent.

It is worth noting that during the meeting, there were official visits to the headquarters of the African Union and meetings with officials and experts in the Union and international and regional bodies to enhance the strategic partnership with ECOSOC in a sustainable manner.
