Ayman Okeil, chairman of the Maat for Peace, Development, and Human Rights, called for accelerating the return of Palestinians to safe areas in the Gaza Strip as a first step, paving the way for further reconstruction in the Strip. He rejected all forced displacement policies targeted by Israel. He noted that displacement plans are not recent ones, but have existed since the beginning of the conflict in the 1950s and 1960s. Okeil called on the international community to support, fund, and implement Gaza reconstruction plans, and to provide political and technical assistance based on a permanent political solution that achieves the two-state solution.
This came during his participation in a side event on the "Right of Return," held on the sidelines of the 59th session of the Human Rights Council. The side event discussed the right of return for refugees, focusing on the legal, humanitarian, and political dimensions of this fundamental right.
