Maat for Peace, Development, and Human Rights is participating in the Eleventh Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development and its preparatory meetings in Kampala, Uganda, from April 8 to 11, 2025.
The Forum serves as the regional preparatory meeting for Africa to produce collective interventions for the High-Level Political Forum to be held in New York in July 2025, and the second Global Social Development Summit to be held in Qatar from November 4 to 6, 2025, aimed at providing a vision for accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals.
During a session titled "Progress Towards Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Africa... Focusing on Five Key Goals for 2025," Abdulrahman Pasha, Executive Director of Maat, presented the progress made in achieving the sustainable development goals in the North Africa region, particularly regarding Goal 3 (Health), Goal 5 (Gender Equality), Goal 8 (Decent Work), and Goal 17 (Partnerships).
Pasha recommended the necessity of conducting evaluative and analytical studies on the impact of projects and policies to identify their developmental and rights-related effects, emphasizing the importance of precise and continuous monitoring of development facts in Africa to ensure the creation of a comprehensive and robust information environment regarding development. This would assist governments in formulating policies, plans, and measures to activate development. He stressed the need for engagement in regional and national consultations with governments and developmental decision-makers about positive practices and experiences that enhance development, enabling them to benefit from these positive experiences and understand how to localize them in their countries.
It is worth noting that Maat participation comes at the invitation of United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, as Maat is a member of the Africa Regional Mechanism of the Major Groups and other Stakeholders (ARMMGOS) and serves as the North Africa coordinator within the NGO Major Group in Africa.
