On the sidelines of its participation in the 53rd session of the Human Rights Council, Maat Foundation for Peace, Development, and Human Rights delivered an oral intervention during the interactive dialogue on the oral update of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria.

During the meeting, Ayman Aqil, a human rights expert, confirmed that the continued imposition of unilateral coercive measures by the United States and the European Union countries is consequently leading to the deterioration of economic and social rights in Syria.

Aqeel called on the Council to urge countries to halt the imposition of unilateral coercive sanctions on Syria due to the disastrous repercussions on human rights and the humanitarian situation.
