Maat calls for guarantees to combat terrorism and the release of all detainees

At the conclusion of the training course held by the Maat Center for Legal and Constitutional Studies in Giza Governorate, which is related to training lawyers on legal procedures related to detainees' cases, which lasted for two days. The center presented working papers during which the topics included commenting on the emergency law - legal procedures for detainees' cases - the crime of torture in Egyptian legislation and international conventions - combating terrorism between Egyptian legislation and international conventions - implementing judgments in the administrative judiciary.
The participants in the training called on the institutions concerned with proposing and drafting the law and putting in place guarantees to ensure that the new terrorism law, to be promulgated, does not infringe upon the public rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution and international covenants.
And that by including the new law setting a specific and clear definition of terrorism that is consistent with the principle of generality and divestment of the legal base on the one hand - and it adopts a clear policy to limit the spread of the phenomenon of societal violence on the other hand.
In the same context, the participants also demanded that the new law include harsher criminal penalties that would be inflicted on those authorized to implement and implement the provisions of this law in the event of a violation by one of them representing an assault on public rights and freedoms, in addition to ensuring that all those affected by the application of this law obtain their full right to Civil reparation compensation for damage.
The participants also pointed out the importance of the Minister of Interior taking a serious step towards ending the detainees' file, as it is a remnant of the state of emergency that the President promised to end after the issuance of a new anti-terrorism law, by issuing a decision to release all detainees who were not charged with specific crimes. They are tried before their natural judge, or final court rulings are issued against them.
At the conclusion of the session, the participants emphasized the importance of the role played by the media in combating terrorism, renouncing violence and establishing a culture of peace.
