This statement came in the context of the Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights’ participation - virtually - over two days, August 25 and 26, in a webinar on the situation of indigenous peoples in Africa. The webinar was launched by the mandate of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations/Communities and Minorities in Africa of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights.

With the participation of a number of commissioners of the African Commission, Commissioner Remy Lombo; the Chairperson of ACHPR , Commissioner Litha Musyimi Ogana, the Chairperson of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations/Communities and Minorities in Africa, and the presence of expert members of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, a representative of the African Development Bank, and representatives of African civil society.

It is noteworthy that the webinar came with the aim of mapping indigenous communities on the African continent and identifying the highest priorities that must be worked on to enhance the conditions of indigenous peoples and populations in the coming period.
