"Okeil": Cooperation with the IOM aims to strengthen social integration policies for migrants

"De Boeck": We must work to educate migrants about human rights and provide them with assistance programs

Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Egypt, the two parties stressed the need to promote the rights of migrants, contributing to informed awareness, increasing knowledge about migration and related issues, and achieving real empowerment and social integration.

The cooperation aims to implement awareness-raising and community participation activities that address the risks and protection related to the integration of migrants, social cohesion, human rights, and sustainable development and implements various activities such as campaigns and events aimed at improving the conditions of migrants in Egypt and raising their capabilities and skills.

In this context, Ayman Okeil, the international human rights expert and president of Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights, said that this partnership with IOM Egypt aims primarily to confront the challenges faced by migrants in Egypt, especially Africans, given that Egypt is one of the largest host countries for migrants from Africa. Okeil stressed that this cooperation will focus on strengthening the social integration policies for these migrants.

Okeil noted that this serves Egypt's activation of its international obligations concerned with protecting the rights of migrants, in a way that guarantees the full enjoyment of all basic human rights principles for them and their families.

In the same context, Laurent De Boeck, IOM Egypt's Chief of Mission, stressed the major importance of such community partnerships. De Boeck stressed the need to open direct channels of communication with migrants in Egypt, work on educating them about their rights and strengthen protection programs and direct assistance to them.

De Boeck encouraged all immigrants in Egypt and all institutions and community bodies to communicate and partner to promote all forms of participation and social integration of immigrants.

It is noteworthy that Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration, launched the first phase of the training program "Raising Awareness of Migrants about Egyptian Laws", which will run on March 25 and 26, as part of the partnership between the two parties.
