Maat expresses its concern about the increasing sending of Somali mercenaries to Libya

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights expresses its concern over the increasing number of reports that the governments of # Qatar and # Turkey have recruited hundreds of Somali youths to participate in the ongoing war in Libya #, who numbered about 2,000 Somali youth, including children.

Maat Foundation warns that this undermines all peace proposals # that all international parties are calling for, and the governments of the two aforementioned countries are not bound by them. Stressing that the continuation of sending # mercenaries from # Somalia and # Syria aims only to achieve political interests and purposes that are inconsistent with all claims to peace, and violate all human rights and # international humanitarian law.

The Foundation affirms that this is inconsistent with the "International Convention against the Recruitment, Use, Financing and Training of Mercenaries", which states in its Article Five - Clause 2 that "States parties shall not recruit mercenaries, use them, finance them or train them for the purpose of resisting the legitimate practice of the inalienable right of peoples In #Fate ”.

The Foundation calls for activating the third item of the same article. Which states that "States Parties shall punish the crimes stipulated in this Convention # with appropriate penalties that take into account the grave nature of these crimes."
