For the second time Maat repeats claim of integration of civil society organizations in the dialogue

There is no doubt that wide-ranging and constitutive dialogue, which containing all community-based parties and stakeholders in political arena, is required to cross the transition period we are live now in Egypt. This transition period followed the success of January 25, revolution in achieving its legitimate demands and abandonment of former President Mohammad Hosni Mubarak on his powers and mandate of Supreme Council of Armed Forces in management of affairs of the country.

In this context, Maat for peace, development and human rights commends opened attitude of Supreme Council of Armed Forces to include all political forces and intellectuals in its dialogue, which was amply demonstrated in meetings of constructive dialogue held by Council with a large number of figures and representatives of these forces during the past few days. Maat also pay tribute to transparency and openness that has characterized this meeting according to participants' statements.

But - and at the same time – we have some reservations regarding the lack of participation of civil society organizations (CSOs) in the dialogue so far, and express our wondering, not to invite representatives of these organizations to present and discuss their views and their vision of required reform measures with Supreme Council of Armed Forces, as it is a party that placed in its hands responsibility of transition period.

Maat reiterates its claim that have already been addressed to Mr. Omar Suleiman, former Vice-President - and here it address it to Supreme Council of Armed Forces - the need to include civil society organizations of Egypt in dialogue going on now. Maat stresses that CSOs is the only party that does not have interest except reform and approval of legality and democracy. Therefore, the vision of these CSOs must be presented strongly in this current situation.

Maat is worried that exclusion of CSOs of dialogue comes in context of war that was waged on these CSOs, their independent and neutral activities, and defending the right of citizens to demonstrate peacefully and express their legitimate demands.

Maat calls Supreme Council of Armed Forces to put an end to these fears by inviting representatives of Egyptian CSOs to dialogue and put forward their views on ongoing and required reforms, with note that these CSOs can effectively contribute in the development of political, legislative and economic reforms, to be performed. In addition, create community-based mechanisms to neutral oversight and monitor to implement these reforms.
