' EL MISSREY ELYOUM' A RESPECTABLE PRESS ADMINSRTATION ,HE SAID GAMAL FAHMY: JOURNALISTS FROM 'SCABBY' INSTITUTIONS DEEM IT TOO MUCH FOR THE YOUNG JOURNALISTS TO BE REGISTERED IN THE SYNDICATE AFTER CLEANING ITS STAIRS BEFORE BEING REGISSTERED

Mr. Gamal Fahmy , the member of the bar association council and the secretary of the registration committee in the syndicate's tables, denied that there are thousands of journalists who are not following the syndicate in Egypt, as some people believe, drawing attentions to the fact that many of the journalists do not own the skills and foundations of this profession ,but they are pushed by the unemployment crisis to enter the press world which they do not have its minimum fundamentals to the extent that many of them are illiterate and the others own the membership of the syndicate by illegal means which are known to every body ,especially in the party, private and even national newspapers in which its journalists send officers from the State Security, not the management councils or editors-in-chief, to register them in the syndicate tables , and that is why you find many of them skillful in writing security reports.

Fahmy stated in a symposium discussed" Practical Steps for Legal and Insurance Protection of young journalists" , which was held by Maat Center Monday evening , that the journalists who are following the syndicate themselves lack legal and insurance protection as a result of the laws that restrain freedoms and which are increasing by the parliament which included

'Some robbers' and which has no relation with laborers , peasants and all human beings. Instead , it just works in favor of the rich whose wealth is suspected , at the expense of the crushed and the poor people , among which are those journalists , weather who follow or do not follow the syndicate and whose material state and salaries are too bad to continue , in comparison to the state and salary of any foreign journalist in many countries which adopt the multi-syndicate system , the system which I do not object , although I am mostly with the view of the unity of journalistic group and the existence of a more bigger entity that expresses strongly this class of people and their profession.

As regards the conditions of registration in the syndicate tables, which made many journalists spent many years trying to gain the membership , Fahmy said" The recent registration law no. 76for year 1970 was issued in a bad atmosphere which can not be reformed now , and we cannot demand for its reformation , so that the reformation would not be like that of article 76 which have been violated by the law tailors and the Satan . There are lots of pressures that aim at reforming the law to let the popular China ' enter the syndicate to transfer it to a syndicate of men of media or to an entertainment club in which girls whose hair is dried with oxygen enjoyed their times. And with this change the syndicate will lack nothing but to be mentioned in London and Cyprus media the owners of which trade with the future of the youth for the sake of advertisements and most of them are unequipped to manage ' pickle shops' , with all my respect for its honorable owners "

Fahmy said" Regardless of the law which connects the syndicate membership with the work contract between the journalist and its association, and most of those who do not deserve its membership proved the dirty means to own it, so the decline in the professional level is the reason behind constructing the undeveloped mentalities that think that the membership of the syndicate and the title 'journalist' marked their owner , and make them unlike other people to the extent that the syndicate has received trivial complaints from trivial men because of their quarrels with (the conductor to pay for half a ticket only) . Such people demand to be isolated from mankind , to the extent that if any of them went to pilgrimage , he would ask some one to accompany him to throw the small stones on his behalf.

Fahmy added" Imagine that the graveyards which follow the syndicate were stolen and traded with in the era of the previous captain whose salary in his press institution , or, to say the truth, his estate , reaches 180 million LE , twice the salary of George W. Bush , the head of the world administration council !! One of the leaders of the elections' thugs mentioned that he has benefited from selling 38graveyards since 15 years and the meetings between him and the mortician were held in the old buildings of the syndicate..!! Imagine that those who cleaned the Syndicate's stairs until they gain its membership, some of them demanded not to register the young journalists in the syndicate tables and to stop holding the registration committee which is held in a rotating way..!!

Also Gamal Fahmy praised the management of El Missrey El Youm ' The Egyptian Today' press association , saying that it gives a respectable example of the association which respects the law and the journalists' rights as shown in its commitment to find the rights of one of the colleagues who resorted to it lately . Furthermore, it was very sympathetic with him and did not hesitate for a moment to pay his due which were supported by the syndicate and its council . This fact shows the contradiction between the management of this association and that of the other party and special associations which do not respect the journalists' rights and aim at torturing both the workers and those who are in differences with their management.

He also accused the party papers because they are left without a real owner or controller and he mentioned the experience of El Arabi El Nassery saying " I didn't get my salary for three months , and in spite of its bad financial situation , it is the only paper which did not dismiss any of the journalists in spite of the fact that 30% of its journalists must have been dismissed from the whole world. It is one of the associations which gathered many colleagues who are aware of the necessity to defend some professional standards which afterward became a common convention in job relations by virtue of their own moralities , not of the party itself, it is enough that it is the only management council which elect 1\3 of its 9 members.

As regards the humiliating contract which the journalist try to get from his newspaper and to prove his work in it, to get the syndicate membership and to be compelled to adopt certain political ideas that agree with the policy of his paper , especially the party papers , Fahmy said that 90% of the recent parties , I do not know their political trends and they have no effect in the Egyptian streets at all, and if there was conscience in the relation between the journalist and his paper , there would not be any problem because no journalist will be compelled to write what does not agree with his own principles and beliefs , in stead he would express his own views without violating the conventions of the profession or the trends agreed upon in the policy of his paper.

So, Fahmy called upon journalists who are in problems with their associations to go on a strike and to sit in the associations and not to attend to the syndicate's conditioned halls , because their setting in the place of their work would increase the pressure on the association management and would make them gain the support of their colleagues there. He also disapproved with the situation of some colleagues who refused to support the demands and rights of many journalists who sit in the association or who are going on a strike. The attendants listened to the two journalists , Nasser Abdul Azeem and Asmaa Afify who worked for the party paper Shabab Misr ' The Egyptian Youth' and who asserted that they were blackmailed by the head of the party , the chief-in-editor of the paper, and that his means to violate the journalists' rights will allow the shepherd to gain the membership of the syndicate , the secretary of its council refused to support them because they are not registered in its tables. And this is the cause raised now before the judgment between them and other journalists from one side, and between them and the owner of the party and the paper from the other side… Gamal replied that the syndicate also receive complaints from normal citizens against its members, but the means of disciplining are hindered due to the difficulty to hold the investigation committee in it . Yet , the recent council supports also the journalists who are not members in the syndicate legally and spiritually , and protects them in many cases in which they are accused of taking the identity of journalist , and lately the syndicate hurried in holding the registration committee to support the stands of some of them before the judgment , even if it is blamed for its failure to discuss with the association the passage of the legal period of the journalists' training without appointing them according to the recent law .
