On the sidelines of her participation in the activities of the 75th session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights

On the sidelines of its participation in the activities of the 75th session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights commented on the report of the Special Rapporteur on prisons, conditions of detention and police in Africa.
Maat Foundation is deeply concerned about the deteriorating conditions of prisons and detention centers in Eritrea. The Eritrean government continues to pursue violent policies towards citizens in detention centers, in addition to cases of arrest and enforced disappearance.
Maat Foundation monitored a number of violations inside Eritrean prisons during the month of April, especially those in the Eritrean capital, Asmara. It is also concerned about the fate of people imprisoned under inappropriate conditions of detention. Maat calls on the Eritrean government to take the necessary measures to improve prison conditions in Eritrean capital.
This came during Maat’s participation in the activities of the 75th session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
