On Sidelines of 55th Session of Human Rights Council: Maat Discusses Challenges Facing Young Human Rights Defenders in Gulf Countries

The event took place during the 55th session of the Human Rights Council, on the sideline of Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders report, which highlighted challenges faced by young people and children engaged in human rights advocacy.
The panel discussion was attended by a group of experts and young human rights defenders, including Ayman Okeil, an international human rights expert and, and Professor Shahinaz Jamal, an ambassador in the field of peacebuilding and interfaith coexistence, with Ali Muhammad, Director of Research and Studies Unit at Maat, as moderator.
Speakers unanimously agreed that young human rights defenders in the Arab Gulf region face significant challenges that require the development of effective solutions.
They emphasized the importance of implementing initiatives to empower youth, not only in the Gulf region but also throughout the Arab region and in member states of the United Nations .
Additionally, they stressed the necessity of increasing cooperation between Gulf countries and international mechanisms for the protection of human rights, as these mechanisms are globally recognized and acknowledged in promoting human rights.
