Within the framework of its interest in the democratic transition in Egypt after January revolution, and working towards activating political participation for all segments of society. Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, supported by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) initiated its training courses in El Memoufia governorate in the framework of the project (Protect your Vote from Invalidity) between the 2nd and 5th of January 2012, the four training courses targeted (100) participants of youth and natural leaders from different centers.

Each one of the training courses included the concept of democracy, its foundations and mechanisms that guarantee to broaden the base of participation either through multiparty free elections where monitoring is part and parcel to guarantee its integrity and to express the citizen's free will or through shaping public opinion to consolidate the values of democracy in the society as a first step to upgrade the political process in Egypt.

The training courses also include identifying elections as one of the main axes in the political process, it was tackled in a comprehensive matter starting from the nature of the electoral system, rules for conducting elections, the legal frameworks regulating the electoral process, how to choose the candidates, who is eligible for candidacy, candidates malpractices, voting rules, how to avoid invalidating your voice due to lack of awareness, which demands the youth and natural leaders in the society to raise electoral awareness. The training courses focus on identifying the principles of awareness campaigns, how to be organized before and after the elections with emphasizing that the methods and means of raising the awareness are one of the pillars of the awareness process success.

A training manual was prepared entitled "tools and skills for Egyptian voters' awareness" to help the trainers in awareness campaigns, it also included sufficient information on the electoral process.

The first training course in El-Menoufia governorate was conducted in the headquarters of El Sadat Association for Development and Social Care in El Menoufia and was concluded with a group of recommendations from the participants, who emphasized the necessity to broaden the base of political participation in parallel with the awareness campaigns working on educating the citizens along with urging them to have a positive effective role in the political process.

The necessity to networking between natural leaders and civil society organizations in order to rehabilitate them to be cadres with central role in the political process and demanded to continue the awareness process on the basis of the electoral process without any association with the elections conduction time to raise the society's political awareness.
