The African continent is not immune to the crises facing the international community. Over the past few years, the continent has witnessed a highly complex mix of crises, including active and protracted conflicts, political instability, security turmoil, natural disasters, and extreme climate change. All of these factors have stimulated a complex environment that is pushing citizens across the continent to become internally displaced or seek refuge in neighboring countries in search of less threatening and safer environments. In this context, Maat Foundation, in a fact sheet published on the sidelines of World Refugee Day under the title “Journeys of Pain… On Displacement and Asylum as Inevitable African Choices,” sheds light on the reality of the major displacement and asylum crisis facing the African continent, during which Africans experience various forms of threats, from a numerical, statistical, and analytical perspective.
