Halfway between the two cycles of the universal periodic review of Egypt (2014-2019), the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights has the honor to invite you to cover the final conference of the “Universal Periodic Review as a Tool for Improving Public Policies” project, between ten in the morning and twelve in the afternoon, on Sunday corresponding to December 24, 2017, Ramses Hilton Hotel, located at 1115, Corniche El Nil, Downtown, Cairo.

The conference aims to present and discuss the results of the project implemented by Maat Foundation over a period of two years with the aim of following up and supporting Egypt's fulfillment of its obligations before the universal periodic review mechanism. It also aims to provide a platform for dialogue on procedures and steps to implement the voluntary pledges of the Egyptian government that it committed to in March 2015, in addition to establishing A common ground between actors and stakeholders allows us to move towards preparing for the third cycle of the review, scheduled for 2019.

During the conference, which will host a large number of media outlets, diplomatic missions, parliamentarians, leaders of civil work and government officials, the achievements that the project has succeeded in achieving over the past two years will be presented, and a presentation of the institution’s future plans regarding the universal periodic review mechanism, and voluntary pledges to Egypt will be presented. During the coming years, the role of the government, civil society and the media in following up on these pledges and helping the government to fulfill them.

It is worth noting that the project sought to enhance the role of the universal periodic review to improve public policies and reform human rights during the transitional phase in Egypt by actively engaging civil society organizations, activists and media professionals in monitoring and advocating for the necessary human rights reform and adopting new policies compatible with international human rights standards.

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights is an Egyptian non-governmental organization registered in accordance with the Law of Associations and Institutions, under the Declaration No. 3166 of 2008 and amended No. 7829 of 2010, and the Foundation occupied the site of the President of the Egyptian National Network of the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures between 2013 and 2016. The Foundation enjoys consultative status in the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
