In conjunction with the continental celebrations of Africa's Women's Day, Maat calls for raising awareness of the mechanisms concerned with promoting gender equality
In conjunction with the continental celebrations of Africa's Women's Day, and in cooperation with the Egyptian Red Crescent and the General Union for African Students in Egypt and under the auspices of The Egyptian African Association, Maat concluded the two-day activities organized in celebration of Africa’s Women’s Day. The activities included a variety of training workshops and panel sessions, in addition to other programs presented by various African countries.
On the first day, Maat for Peace, organized training workshop at the headquarters of the African Association in Cairo. The workshop discussed international and regional mechanisms for the protection of women's rights, as well as the basic concepts and characteristics of human rights, and international advocacy tools for the protection of women's rights. Besides, it highlighted the role of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights in combating all forms of discrimination against women and girls.
The second day, included a number of panel discussions. The first panel discussion focused on “Women and Girls Education in Africa”, whereas the second session, entitled “Gender-Based Violence”, Maat participate focused on "gender-based violence in countries of armed conflict in Africa from a human rights point of view".
