Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights organized, over two days, the fifth version of the training program: “Educating Migrants about Egyptian Laws” in the context of spreading human rights culture among migrants in Egypt to enhance and raise their capabilities.

The two-day training program consisted of more than 6 sessions; varied between introductory sessions, panel discussions and working groups on the basic rights that all migrants, they and their families, should enjoy in Egypt. The training also introduced the UN mechanisms and special procedures related to the protection of the rights of migrants at the international level, especially, the Special Rapporteur on the protection of the rights of migrants, and stressed the pivotal role played by this UN mechanism in protecting the rights of migrants worldwide.

In the context of the training, "Ayman Okeil", the international human rights expert and president of Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights, stressed the significance of the training program launched by Maat in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration in Egypt, which came out in five versions so far and aims to spread the human rights culture among migrants, and introduce them to the key challenges facing them in Egypt, thus strengthening their human rights situation and working towards achieving more stability in the future.

For his part, Abdul Rahman Pasha, head of the Sustainable Development Unit at Maat, highlighted the importance of discussing the challenges faced by migrants in the host countries, and recommended to strengthen awareness-raising programs, especially among government employees dealing with migrants in Egypt, and to facilitate administrative procedures for migrants.

Notably, this training comes in the context of activating the memorandum of understanding between Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights and the International Organization for Migration in Egypt.
