Cooperation with international human rights mechanisms ... a required step forward

The most prominent human rights challenge that the Sudanese government faces in the transitional period it is going through is its accession to international human rights conventions that it has not yet joined. Especially since there were dozens of recommendations made to the Government of Sudan in the previous UPR 2016 session, regarding cooperation with international human rights mechanisms.

Therefore, Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights recommends that the Sudanese government accelerate the accession to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, the International Convention for the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, as well as the ratification of the Convention Against Torture and others. Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, and its Optional Protocol.

The Foundation also recommends the necessity of commitment to constructive cooperation with the contractual mechanisms of international conventions to which Sudan has already acceded, such as the International Committee for Human Rights, the International Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the International Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, the International Committee on the Rights of the Child, and the International Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
