Maat launches an invitation to join the "Egyptian Alliance of Stakeholders for the Universal Periodic Review"
Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights launched an invitation to join the “Egyptian Alliance of Stakeholders for the Universal Periodic Review”, and this comes within the framework of the “Universal Periodic Review as a tool for improving public policies during the transitional phase” project implemented by the Foundation with funding from the European Union over the course of 2016- 2017.
The coalition, which will include at least 25 civil organizations as founding members, seeks to build a permanent and sustainable institution to follow up on government work at the local level, especially with regard to implementing Egypt's voluntary commitments to the UPR, raising the institutional capacities of member organizations in the alliance, carrying out a range of activities to enhance community awareness With the UPR, communicating with policymakers to adopt public policies in line with Egypt's voluntary commitments to the UPR, and issuing reports related to human rights to participate in the UPR session Egypt 2018.
Noting that the “UPR as a tool for improving public policies during the transitional phase” seeks to enhance the role of the UPR to improve public policies and reform human rights during the transitional phase in Egypt by actively involving civil society organizations, activists and media professionals in following up and advocating for the necessary reform of human rights. And adopting new policies compatible with international human rights standards based on the 2014 universal periodic review.
The project's activities cover all governorates of the Republic, as well as targeting civil society organizations, members of the Egyptian parliament, internet activists, bloggers, journalists, policy makers, legislators, and society as a whole.
