Egypt is witnessing the first truly competitive presidential elections in its history, and it is one of the fruits of the January 25, 2011 revolution, that popular revolution that brought out its owners by millions demanding freedom, democracy and human dignity.
\nOut of concern for the protection of popular demands related to the integrity and freedom of the electoral process, and confirmation of the popular role in achieving this, the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights begins the work of following up the stages of polling and counting and announcing the results of the presidential elections in its first phase (23-24 May 2012)
\nThis comes in the context of implementing the activities of the program to support popular oversight of the general elections, which Maat is implementing with self-financing and voluntary efforts by it and by a number of civil organizations and popular organizations in five governorates (Luxor - Sharqiya - Menoufia - Cairo - Giza) for the third year in a row.
\nThe Popular Oversight Support Program seeks to empower local communities to self-monitor general elections by converting voters into observers and evaluators of the electoral process as they are the ultimate stakeholders in this matter.
\nIn its follow-up, Maat relies on local follow-up committees of natural and civil leaders and activists in some areas of the targeted governorates, as well as polling the voters themselves, and Maat Foundation will prepare a full report on the results of its follow-up to the electoral process after the end of the second round.
\nMaat Foundation has obtained 105 permits for members of the popular committees that will handle the election follow-up operations, as they will begin to transmit statements to the institution\u2019s operations room from the early hours of the morning of the first day of polling.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
