A training course for radio preparers and presenters and the legal uses of electronic broadcasting

Employing communication technology and Internet applications has become a necessity necessitated by the need to sustain and continue the impact of efforts to promote human rights and address generations that depend mainly on non-traditional sources to obtain their knowledge, acquire their experiences, and draw their own values and culture. Internet broadcasts are gaining increasing importance at the present time, and it calls for mobilizing the energies of civil society organizations to work with these groups to achieve their lofty mission.

In this context, the training course held by Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, in cooperation with Al-Hayat Center for Human Rights, came under the title (The Uses of Electronic Broadcasting in Promoting Human Rights: A Training Course for Producers and Presenters of Electronic Radio Programs).

The activities of the training course will last for six days, from Saturday 19 December 2009 until Thursday 24 December 2009, with the participation of 25 young men and women from the Internet and electronic broadcasting. The activities of the training course will be held at the headquarters of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights.

The training course revolves around several topics related to electronic broadcasting, its importance, the differences between electronic broadcasting and traditional broadcasting, and what must be taken into account in order to establish a successful electronic broadcasting. .

In addition, the training deals with the skills of presenting radio programs, how to acquire them, the qualities that the broadcaster must possess, the skills of managing radio dialogue, presenting information and news to the listener in a clear and understandable manner, and also deals with the linguistic and vocal skills of the broadcaster.

In addition, the training program contains a component on human rights, the legal approach to development, and how to use electronic radio stations to spread awareness of these rights, detect and monitor violations, and communicate with decision-makers and citizens.

A group of trainers, activists, and workers in broadcasting, electronic, and legal rights are lecturing at the training course, including Mr. Ayman Aqil, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Maat Foundation, Dr. Walid Barham, researcher in international humanitarian law, director of the Life Center and programmer of Egyptian Radio, Dr. Hisham Mahfouz, radio expert, and Ms. Jihan Talaat, who specializes in News performance and Professor Sherine Safwat, an expert in presenting radio programs.

Through this training course, Maat Foundation and Al-Hayat Center seek to provide a group of Internet activists and electronic broadcasters with the basic skills that enable them to integrate the human rights approach in their media work in a way that benefits the human rights situation in society and contributes to opening new windows for those whose rights have been violated on the one hand, and those wishing to follow up On the other hand, the human rights issue can be used and accessed easily.

It remains to be mentioned that electronic radios are new platforms made available by the tremendous progress in information technology and communication media that human rights organizations can use to communicate with citizens and jump over the walls that limit the movement of these organizations in society.
